You would think that literally having the beach on your door step would be the primary reason to buy Gull Cottage in Aspendale. It’s what first caught my attention as well. However the new owners will hopefully appreciate the same intangible feel or quality to the home that comes from something more. Maybe it’s the history of the property or the memory of the lovely lady who has called it home for the three decades or more. I’m not sure but it is pretty special.
I don’t often wax lyrical about the homes we style, it is a business after all. However after going into hundreds of homes each year, you learn that some have an feel, a personality or sense of character that you can’t quite put your finger on. This one had me packing the kids, dog and hubby into the car in an effort to convince them this could be our new home!
For whichever family moves in there are three bedrooms, the master is oversized with an almost new ensuite and walk in robe with french doors leading to the garden. The other family bath is new and the home has benefitted from a range of updates to most areas. There is really just the kitchen and exterior to freshen up. Well that was my plan anyway! A study with two living spaces and a huge garage are the other benefits.
The beach is however a stand out. Whatever the Melbourne weather the ability to walk out your door and directly onto the beach for a walk with the dog or to call out from the kitchen window of an evening for your kid’s to come in because it’s getting dark. That is a quality of life that would be very hard to replicate.
